Until the founding of BIG, Iranian gas was burnt and wasted at oil wells due to a lack knowledge, market and distribution networks. Mean whilst, the local population continued to use traditional fuels such as wood and coal for their heating and cooking needs.
In 1953, Butane Company was founded with the mission to bring comfort to Iranian families by substituting these traditional methods of heating and cooking, with gas and gas burning appliances. In 1956, with the more widespread use of gas as a cleaner and more convenient alternative, Butane Industrial was formed as a separate company, as the first and largest manufacturer of gas burning appliances and LPG cylinders. Within a few years, Butane Industrial’s products numbered more than 200 items, most of which were being introduced to the market for the first time.
Commitment to innovation and quality, along with a high standard in customer service from its initial days of founding led to Butane’s customers labeling the company as the “sure choice”.

Customer Driven
By believing that customer expectations are ever growing, Butane has always gone beyond meeting customer’s current expectations, and by always products far superior to the standards of the time, Butane has contributed to the bettering of the Iranian way of life.
Offering innovative products that meet customer needs, many of which were unknown to themselves, has been a constant in our over 50 years of history. Based on this, in 1981 BIG manufactured its first generation of instant wall-hung water heaters, introducing the Iranian consumer for the first time to concept of instant and continuous hot water. In a period of seven years, BIG increased it production tenfold, whilst growing internal expertise and reducing reliance on imported parts. During this period BIG exported its first shipment of components to the UK and Germany. In 1986 Butane also became the first manufacturer of combi-boilers in Iran, a product whose popularity has been growing rapidly ever since.

From it’s founding to the present, BIG by relying on the latest know-how and technologies have been at the forefront of industry in Iran. By developing and then implementing of many national standards with regards to gas burning appliances BIG has helped establish a strong foundation for this industry in Iran.
BIG’s strong and continued commitment to national and international standards has been recognized over the years by the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran.
